Wiebke Elzel and Jana Müller are preoccupied in their work with social catastrophes, threats and collective angst. In their large-format pictures, the catastrophe is neither named nor shown, but merely indicated by the use of subtly symbolic objects. In their meticulously composed presentations they employ a collective pictoral memory that enables the narrative intimations in their pictures to be correlated by the observers with real happenings they are cognizant of from the media.
